Just Trying to Catch My Breath

Just Trying to Catch My Breath

Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Have you ever had one of those seasons where you feel like you’re just trying to catch your breath? Not because you ran a race. Not because you climbed a mountain. But because life just keeps coming. One phone call after another. One bill after another. One responsibility after another. One unexpected setback after another. You keep telling yourself, “Once I get through this week, things will slow down.” Then another week comes. And another. Before long, you’re not really living—you’re simply surviving.

Maybe that’s where you are today. You’re smiling on the outside while silently wondering how much longer you can keep going. You’re doing what needs to be done, but inside you’re exhausted. You aren’t asking for an easy life. You’re just trying to catch your breath. The beautiful thing about Jesus is that He never rebuked weary people for being weary. Instead, He invited them closer.“Come to Me.” Not, “Try harder.”Not, “Get your act together.”Not, “Figure it out.”Just… come.

God never intended for us to carry tomorrow’s burdens with today’s strength. His grace has always been daily. His mercies have always been new every morning. He meets us one breath, one step, one day at a time. Sometimes catching your breath doesn’t mean escaping your circumstances. Sometimes it means slowing your heart long enough to remember that God is still on the throne. He hasn’t forgotten you. He isn’t rushing you. He isn’t disappointed that you’re tired. He simply wants you near.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed today, don’t measure your faith by how fast you’re running. Measure it by where you’re turning. Turn to Jesus. Take a deep breath. Open His Word. Whisper a prayer. Rest in His promises. The God who created your lungs also knows how to restore your soul. You don’t have to have everything figured out today. You just need enough grace for the next breath. And thankfully, His grace has never run out.

Prayer
Father, You know how tired I am. You know the weight I’ve been carrying and the things no one else sees. Help me stop striving long enough to rest in You. Remind me that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness and that Your grace is enough for today. Teach me to breathe deeply of Your peace and to trust You with everything I cannot control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
