Strength For The Step I Am On
There are seasons when I wish God would give me strength for the whole journey. Strength for next month. Strength for the next decision. Strength for everything that might happen. But lately I’m learning that God doesn’t always give me strength for the whole road. He gives me strength for the step I’m on. “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT
Sometimes we exhaust ourselves trying to carry tomorrow while we’re still standing in today. We ask: How am I going to make it through this season? What if things don’t change? What if another problem comes? How am I going to handle everything ahead? And God gently reminds us: You don’t have to handle everything ahead. You just have to trust Me here.
Grace Comes One Step at a Time
When Israel wandered through the wilderness, God provided manna for them every morning. He didn’t give them enough for the next six months. He gave them what they needed for that day.
Maybe that’s how God is working in your life right now. You may not have strength for next week. You may not have answers for next month. You may not know how the story is going to turn out. But somehow, when you woke up this morning, there was enough grace to get up again. Enough strength to pray again. Enough faith to keep believing. Enough courage to take another step. That’s God’s faithfulness.
Stop Asking for Strength for a Step You Haven’t Reached
Sometimes I look too far down the road and become overwhelmed by things God hasn’t even asked me to face yet. Jesus said: “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” — Matthew 6:34, NLT
There is freedom in realizing: I don’t need tomorrow’s strength today. When tomorrow comes, God will meet me there. Right now, I only need strength for the conversation in front of me. Strength for the decision in front of me. Strength to forgive today. Strength to obey today. Strength to keep showing up today. Strength for the step I’m on.
You Don’t Have to See the Whole Staircase
Faith rarely means seeing the entire road. Most of the time, faith looks like taking the next step while trusting that God already knows where the road leads. Maybe you’re tired. Maybe you’ve been carrying something longer than you expected. Maybe you’re wondering how much longer you can keep going. Don’t measure today’s strength against tomorrow’s battles. God hasn’t given you tomorrow’s grace yet because you’re not there yet. But He has given you grace for today. And when the next step comes, His grace will be there too. So today my prayer is simple: Lord, I don’t need to know everything that’s ahead. I don’t need strength for the entire journey. Just give me strength for the step I’m on. Help me trust You here. Help me obey You here. And when it’s time to take the next step, remind me that You’ll be there too. One step. One day. One act of obedience at a time. The God who brought you this far will give you strength for the step you’re on.
