For Such a Time as This

“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14, ESV

There are moments in life when suddenly everything begins to make a little more sense. The experiences you’ve walked through. The doors God has opened. The relationships He has given you. The influence He has entrusted to you. Even some of the difficulties you never would have chosen. You begin to realize: Maybe God has been preparing me for this moment. That’s where Esther found herself.

You May Not Understand Why You’re There

Esther didn’t become queen knowing everything that was ahead of her. She couldn’t see the crisis that was coming or the role she would eventually play in saving her people. But God could. When the Jewish people faced destruction, Mordecai sent Esther a message that challenged her to see her position differently:“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” In other words: Esther, maybe this is why you’re here. What looked like a position was actually a purpose. What looked like opportunity was actually an assignment. And what looked like coincidence was actually the providence of God.

God Often Positions Us Before We Understand the Purpose

We usually want God to give us the entire plan first. “Lord, tell me where this is going.” “Show me why I’m going through this.” “Explain why You have me here.”But often God doesn’t explain everything beforehand. He positions us. He prepares us. He shapes us. He teaches us to trust Him. Then the moment arrives when we begin to understand why. Sometimes the thing you thought was merely part of your story becomes the very thing God uses to prepare you for your assignment. Nothing surrendered to God is wasted.

Your Moment May Require Courage

Esther’s opportunity wasn’t comfortable. Approaching the king without being summoned could have cost her life. She had every reason to be afraid.But eventually Esther reached a place of complete surrender: “If I perish, I perish.” — Esther 4:16 That wasn’t recklessness. That was faith. Esther was essentially saying: “I cannot control the outcome, but I can choose obedience.” That is one of the greatest lessons we can learn about following God. Faith doesn’t mean we know exactly what will happen. Faith means we trust God enough to obey Him when we don’t.

Maybe This Is Your “Such a Time” Moment

Maybe God has placed you in your family for such a time as this. Maybe He has placed you in your workplace for such a time as this. Maybe He has given you influence for such a time as this. Maybe the struggle you survived has prepared you to encourage someone who is struggling today. Maybe the lesson God taught you in private is something He now wants you to share publicly. Maybe the door in front of you feels intimidating because stepping through it will require a level of faith you haven’t needed before. Don’t immediately dismiss where God has placed you. There may be purpose in your position.

Instead of only asking: “God, why am I here?” Try asking: “God, what have You placed me here to do?” You may discover that God has been preparing you longer than you realized. The experiences. The relationships. The victories. The disappointments. The waiting. The lessons. The opportunities. God can weave all of it together for His purposes. And perhaps the moment you’re standing in right now isn’t an accident at all. Perhaps God has brought you here…for such a time as this.

Prayer

Lord, help me recognize the purpose You have for where You have placed me. Give me courage when obedience is difficult and faith when I cannot see the outcome. Help me stop asking only why I am here and begin asking what You want me to do while I am here. Use my experiences, influence, opportunities, and even my struggles for Your glory. When my moment comes, give me the courage to say yes. Amen.
