Trusting God in Uncertain Seasons

Trusting God in Uncertain Seasons

Psalm 37:3–6 “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.”

There are seasons when life feels uncertain. We pray, we wait, we wonder if God sees, and sometimes we find ourselves tempted to take matters into our own hands. Yet Psalm 37 reminds us that while we cannot control the outcome, we can choose where we place our trust. David gives four simple but powerful instructions.

Trust in the Lord

Trust is more than believing God exists—it is choosing to rely on Him when circumstances don’t make sense. Trust says, Lord, I don’t understand what You’re doing, but I know who You are.Faith doesn’t mean having all the answers. It means resting in the character of the One who does.

Do Good

Waiting on God is not passive. While we trust Him with tomorrow, we remain faithful today. We continue to love people, serve others, and walk in obedience even when we don’t see immediate results. Faithfulness in the ordinary is never wasted.

Delight Yourself in the Lord

This verse is often misunderstood. God is not promising to fulfill every wish we have. Rather, as we delight ourselves in Him, He reshapes our hearts and aligns our desires with His own. The greatest gift isn’t getting everything we want—it is learning to want Him above everything else. And when Christ becomes our greatest joy, we discover that He truly satisfies.

Commit Your Way to the Lord

The word commit literally means “to roll over.” It paints the picture of placing our burdens, plans, fears, and future into God’s hands. What are you carrying today that God never intended for you to carry alone? Roll it onto Him. The family situation. The financial pressure. The unanswered prayer. The uncertain future. Commit your way to the Lord and leave the results with Him.

He Will Act

Notice the promise: Trust in Him, and He will act.” Not you will act. Not you will force the answer. Not you will make everything happen. He will act. God has never been absent. He has never forgotten you. He has never misplaced your prayers. He works in His timing, in His wisdom, and for His glory. Sometimes His greatest work is not changing our circumstances immediately, but changing us while we wait.

A Final Thought

We live in a world that tells us to strive harder, worry more, and control everything. God invites us into a different way:

  • Trust Him.
  • Keep doing good.
  • Delight in Him.
  • Commit your way to Him.

And then rest, because the burden of making everything work was never yours to carry.

Prayer

Father, thank You that I do not have to figure everything out. Teach me to trust You when I cannot see the whole picture. Help me to delight in You above all else and to commit every part of my life into Your hands. Strengthen me to remain faithful while I wait, and remind me that You are working even when I cannot see it. I place my future, my burdens, and my hopes before You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Pressed but not crushed, held together by the faithfulness of God.
