God’s Presence Everywhere
You Can’t Outrun God
Psalm 139:7–10
There is something both humbling and comforting about knowing that no place is beyond the reach of God. David asks a question that many of us have felt in one way or another:“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?” — Psalm 139:7 The answer is simple: Nowhere. And that is very good news.
God Is Present in the Highs and the Lows
David writes:“If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!” (v. 8) God is with us in the mountaintop moments when life is filled with joy and blessing. But He is equally present in the valleys—the seasons of grief, confusion, and disappointment. Our circumstances may change, but His presence does not. When life is going exactly as we hoped, He is there. When life is nothing like we thought it would be, He is there.
You Can’t Run Beyond His Reach
Throughout Scripture, people tried to run from God. Jonah boarded a ship. Peter hid behind his failures. The prodigal son ran to a distant country. Yet in every case, they discovered that God’s presence had not abandoned them. His pursuit was not one of condemnation, but of mercy. Some people run because they are rebellious. Others run because they are hurting. Still others run because they feel ashamed. But no matter the reason, God is never absent. His love is not limited by geography, failure, or circumstance.
Even There
Perhaps the most beautiful words in this passage are found in verse 10:“Even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.”Even there. Even in the hospital room. Even in the lonely season. Even after the bad decision. Even in the anxiety. Even in the unanswered questions. Even in the grief. Even there. God’s hand is not merely present; it is leading. God’s right hand is not merely near; it is holding. You may not know what tomorrow holds, but you can know Who holds you.
His Presence Is a Comfort, Not a Threat
For the believer, God’s omnipresence is not something to fear. It is something to cherish. You are never abandoned. Never forgotten. Never out of sight. Never beyond His reach. There may be days when you feel far from God, but the truth is that He has never moved. The same God who walks with you in seasons of celebration walks beside you in seasons of sorrow. And wherever you find yourself today, you can rest in this promise: You cannot outrun God’s presence, and you will never outdistance His love.
Reflection
Where do you feel most alone right now? Take comfort in this truth: Even there, His hand will lead you, and His right hand will hold you fast.
