Give Me Faith

Give Me Faith

The song “Give Me Faith” is ultimately a prayer. It isn’t asking God for an easier life—it is asking Him for a deeper trust. The heart of the song echoes the cry of every believer who has walked through disappointment, uncertainty, and weakness: Lord, help me trust You even when I don’t understand.” The themes of surrender, God’s goodness, and strength in our weakness are central throughout the song.  Give me faith to trust what You say, that You’re good and Your love is great.

Faith is easy when the path is clear. It’s easy to trust when the diagnosis comes back clean, when the bills are paid, when relationships are healthy, and when prayers seem to be answered exactly as we hoped. But faith isn’t really tested on the mountaintop. It’s tested in the valley. It’s tested when God seems quiet, when the future is uncertain, and when life looks nothing like we expected.

That’s why one of the most powerful prayers we can pray is simply:“Lord, give me faith.” Not bigger circumstances. Not fewer problems. Not easier days. Just greater faith. The Bible reminds us:“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

Faith doesn’t require having all the answers. It simply believes the One who does. Sometimes God softens our hearts before He changes our circumstances. Sometimes He breaks our pride before He builds our character. Sometimes He allows us to walk through dark valleys so we discover that He really is the Shepherd who never leaves us. We often pray, “Lord, get me out.”But God is often saying, “Trust Me while you’re in it.”

There have been seasons in my own life where I didn’t need more explanations—I needed more faith. Faith to believe God was still good. Faith to believe His timing was perfect. Faith to believe that His silence wasn’t His absence. Faith to believe that what felt like a setback could actually become a setup for His glory. The beautiful thing about biblical faith is that it doesn’t depend on our strength. Paul wrote: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

That’s why we can admit we’re weak. We’re not pretending to have it all together. We’re simply clinging to the One who does. Our flesh may fail. Our emotions may waver. Our plans may crumble. But God never will.

Today, maybe your greatest prayer doesn’t need to be, “Lord, change my situation.” Maybe it simply needs to be:“Lord, give me faith to trust what You say. Help me believe You are still good, Your love is still great, and You are still working—even when I cannot see it.” Because faith doesn’t grow by seeing everything. Faith grows by trusting the One who sees everything.

Prayer

Father, soften my heart and teach me to trust You more. When I cannot see what You’re doing, remind me of who You are. Strengthen my faith when fear whispers louder than truth. Help me surrender my plans, my worries, and my future into Your hands. I believe You are good, Your love never fails, and You are faithful even when I don’t understand. Give me faith to keep walking with You one step at a time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
