When You’re Running on Empty

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.” — Isaiah 40:28

Have you ever felt like you had nothing left to give? Your body is tired. Your mind is overwhelmed. Your heart feels worn thin. You keep showing up, but every step seems heavier than the last. Isaiah reminds us of something we desperately need to remember: God never gets tired. We do. We reach our limits. We run out of energy. We grow discouraged. Even the strongest people eventually discover they are not as strong as they thought. But God is never exhausted, never overwhelmed, and never caught off guard. He is the everlasting God—the Creator of the ends of the earth. His strength is infinite because His nature is unchanging.

That means the One who holds the galaxies together is fully able to hold your life together. Isaiah also tells us that God’s understanding is beyond our ability to comprehend. That’s both humbling and comforting. We may not understand why we’re walking through a difficult season, but we can trust the One who understands everything. When life doesn’t make sense, remember this: God doesn’t ask you to understand everything. He asks you to trust Him.

The verses that follow promise that God gives strength to the weary and renews those who wait on Him. Before God changes our circumstances, He often changes our strength. He doesn’t always remove the burden, but He faithfully carries us through it. Maybe today you feel spiritually exhausted. Maybe you’re carrying responsibilities that seem too heavy, praying prayers that feel unanswered, or simply trying to make it through another day. Lift your eyes. The God who never grows weary is watching over you. The God who never sleeps is working on your behalf. The God whose wisdom is unsearchable knows exactly what you need. You may be running on empty. But God never does.

Prayer:Father, thank You that when my strength fails, Yours never does. Help me stop relying on my own ability and rest in Your everlasting power. Teach me to trust Your wisdom, even when I cannot understand Your ways. Renew my heart today and remind me that You are more than enough for whatever lies ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
