When Your Soul Feels Down
Finding hope in moments of discouragement
“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!” — Psalm 42:11 NLT
There are days when your heart feels heavy and you can’t fully explain why. You believe in God. You know He is faithful. You know His promises are true—and yet you still feel discouraged.Psalm 42 reminds us that faith doesn’t mean we never feel discouraged. Faith means we know where to turn when discouragement comes. The psalmist doesn’t ignore what he is feeling. He asks himself, “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?” But then he does something powerful: he speaks truth to his own soul.“I will put my hope in God!” Sometimes you have to preach to yourself. When your feelings say, “Nothing is going to change,” remind yourself that God is still working. When your heart says, “I can’t keep going,” remind yourself that God will give you strength. When your circumstances say, “There’s no reason to praise,” declare, “I will praise Him again!” Notice that word: again. It means this season isn’t the end of your story. You may be discouraged today, but you will praise again. You may be walking through a valley, but you will worship again. You may not see the answer yet, but your hope is not in what you can see. Your hope is in God. So today, don’t let your discouraged heart have the final word. Speak truth to your soul: God is still faithful. God is still good. God is still with me. And I will praise Him again.
Prayer
Lord, when my heart is discouraged, help me put my hope in You. Remind me that my feelings do not determine Your faithfulness. You are still my Savior and my God. Give me strength to trust You in the waiting and faith to believe that I will praise You again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
