When God’s “Foolishness” Is Wiser Than Our Wisdom

“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” — 1 Corinthians 1:25

There are moments in life when God’s way doesn’t make sense. Forgive the person who hurt you. Love your enemies. Give when money is tight. Wait instead of forcing the door open. Trust Him when you can’t see the outcome. To the world, those things seem foolish. Success is often measured by power, control, influence, and self-reliance. But God’s kingdom operates by a completely different set of values. Paul reminds us that even what people call the “foolishness” of God is infinitely wiser than the greatest human wisdom. And what appears to be God’s “weakness”—most clearly seen in Jesus hanging on a cross—is actually the greatest display of strength the world has ever known.

The cross looked like defeat, but it became victory. Jesus looked powerless, but He conquered sin and death. What seemed foolish became the very wisdom that saves. That truth should encourage us whenever obedience feels costly or confusing. We don’t have to understand everything God is doing before we trust Him. His perspective is eternal. His plans are perfect. His wisdom reaches far beyond what we can see today. Maybe you’re wrestling with a decision that doesn’t seem logical. Maybe God is asking you to take a step of faith that others don’t understand.

Don’t measure God’s direction by human standards. Measure it by His character. God has never been wrong. His wisdom has never failed. His strength has never been overcome. When you choose God’s way over your own understanding, you’re not choosing foolishness—you are choosing the greatest wisdom there is.

Reflection: Is there an area of your life where you’ve been relying more on your own understanding than on God’s wisdom? Today, surrender that area to Him and trust that His way is always better—even when it doesn’t make sense at first.

Prayer: Father, thank You that Your wisdom is greater than anything this world can offer. Help me to trust You even when Your ways don’t make sense to me. Give me the faith to obey, knowing that Your plans are always good, Your strength is always enough, and Your wisdom never fails. In Jesus’ name, amen.
