Wait Well
"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" — Psalm 27:14 (ESV)
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of following God.
We don't mind praying. We don't mind believing. We don't even mind stepping out in faith. But when God asks us to wait, everything inside of us wants to take control. We look for shortcuts, force open doors, or begin to wonder if God has forgotten us altogether.
Yet Scripture doesn't say waiting is passive. It calls us to be strong and take courage while we wait.
Waiting on the Lord isn't sitting still with folded hands. It's an active posture of trust. It's choosing to believe that God is working even when we cannot see it. It's continuing to obey when the answers haven't come. It's believing that His timing is always wiser than ours.
David wrote these words while surrounded by uncertainty. Enemies were pursuing him, his future was unclear, and the promises of God had not yet been fully realized. Still, David anchored his heart in the faithfulness of God rather than the stability of his circumstances. His confidence wasn't that life would become easy—it was that God would remain faithful.
Many of us know what it's like to wait.
We wait for healing after a difficult diagnosis.
We wait for a prodigal son or daughter to come home.
We wait for direction when we don't know which step to take next.
We wait for a new job, financial provision, restored relationships, or answers to prayers we've prayed for years.
Those seasons can feel long. Sometimes God's silence feels confusing, and we wonder if He is doing anything at all.
But God's delays are never His absence.
The Lord often accomplishes His deepest work in us before He accomplishes His greatest work through us. Waiting has a way of exposing what we truly trust. It strips away our self-reliance and teaches us to lean fully on Him. It produces patience, deepens our faith, strengthens our character, and reminds us that our hope is not in an outcome but in the God who never changes.
Isaiah reminds us that "they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength" (Isaiah 40:31). Notice that waiting doesn't drain the believer—it renews the believer. As we wait, God supplies fresh strength for today's challenges and tomorrow's opportunities.
If you're in a season of waiting today, don't lose heart.
God has not forgotten you.
He has not overlooked your prayers.
He is not ignoring your tears.
He is preparing you while He prepares the answer.
So keep praying.
Keep trusting.
Keep obeying.
Keep walking faithfully with Him, even when you cannot yet see what He's doing.
One day you'll look back and realize that the waiting wasn't a detour—it was part of God's perfect plan. He was shaping your heart, strengthening your faith, and drawing you closer to Himself all along.
So hear David's words once more:
"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord."
Your waiting is not wasted. The God who called you is faithful, and He always keeps His promises. In His perfect time, you'll discover that He was worth every moment of the wait.
