The Lord Brings the Increase

There is something freeing about remembering that the results do not ultimately rest on our shoulders. We are called to be faithful. God is responsible for the fruit. The Apostle Paul reminded the church in Corinth:“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” — 1 Corinthians 3:6 (ESV)

Paul did not diminish the importance of planting. Apollos did not minimize the importance of watering. Both were necessary. Yet neither could make a seed come alive. Only God could. We often measure success by numbers, recognition, or visible outcomes. We wonder why our prayers seem unanswered, our ministry feels unnoticed, or our efforts appear unfruitful. But God’s economy is different. He asks for obedience before He asks for results.

A farmer does not stand over the soil demanding immediate growth. He prepares the ground, plants the seed, waters faithfully, and trusts that life is happening beneath the surface. In the same way, God often works where we cannot see. Hearts are being softened. Faith is taking root. Lives are changing long before the harvest becomes visible.

This truth should both humble and encourage us. It humbles us because we cannot take credit when God blesses the work. Every transformed life, every restored marriage, every salvation, every breakthrough is evidence of God’s power—not ours. It encourages us because we do not have to carry the weight of producing the harvest. We simply remain faithful to what He has called us to do. Share the gospel. Love your family. Serve your church. Disciple others. Pray without ceasing. Keep planting. Keep watering. Then leave the increase to the Lord.

Perhaps today you feel discouraged because you have been sowing for a long time without seeing much fruit. Don’t give up. The God who brings the increase is never late. His timing is perfect, and His harvest is always greater than we could produce ourselves. Faithfulness is our assignment. The increase belongs to God.

Prayer
Lord, help me to be faithful in the work You have given me. Guard my heart from discouragement when I cannot see immediate results and from pride when fruit does come. Teach me to trust that You are always at work, even beneath the surface. May I plant and water with joy, knowing that You alone bring the increase. In Jesus’ name, amen.
