The Unfailing Faithfulness of God
God Always Keeps His Word
Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
People change. Plans change. Feelings change. Promises are broken every day. We’ve all experienced the disappointment of someone saying, “I’ll be there,” only to never show up. We’ve trusted words that turned out to be empty. But God is not like us. Numbers 23:19 reminds us that God’s character is completely different from ours. He does not lie. He does not make promises He cannot keep. He does not wake up one morning and decide to change His mind because His emotions shifted or circumstances became difficult. What God says, He does.
That truth is incredibly comforting when life feels uncertain. Maybe you’re waiting for God to answer a prayer. Maybe you’re wondering if He has forgotten you. Maybe His timing doesn’t make sense. Remember, God’s delays are never broken promises. He is always working according to His perfect wisdom and perfect timing. This verse was spoken by Balaam, a prophet hired to curse Israel. Yet instead of cursing them, Balaam declared that God’s blessing could not be reversed because God’s Word cannot fail.
Even when people tried to oppose God’s plans, His promises stood The same is true today. When God says He will never leave you, He means it. When He promises forgiveness through Christ, He means it. When He promises to complete the work He began in you, He means it. Our confidence isn’t found in our ability to hold on to God. It’s found in God’s faithfulness to hold on to us.
So when doubts creep in, don’t evaluate God’s promises by your circumstances. Evaluate your circumstances by God’s promises. He has spoken. He will do it.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You are always faithful. When my circumstances cause me to question Your promises, remind me that Your Word never fails. Help me to trust Your character even when I cannot see Your plan. Thank You for being the God who always does what He says. In Jesus’ name, amen.
