STAY CONNECTED
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5
We live in a world that celebrates independence.Be strong. Handle it yourself. Figure it out. Push through. But Jesus teaches us something completely different: You were never designed to do life apart from Him. Jesus says He is the vine and we are the branches. A branch doesn’t struggle to manufacture fruit. It simply stays connected to the source of life. And when it stays connected, fruit comes.
THE SECRET ISN’T TRYING HARDER
Sometimes when life gets difficult, our instinct is to work harder. We try harder to be patient. Try harder to have faith. Try harder to be strong. Try harder to hold everything together. But Jesus doesn’t say, “Try harder.” He says, “Abide in Me.” There’s a big difference. Abiding means remaining. Staying. Continuing. Living in constant dependence upon Jesus. The Christian life isn’t about producing for Jesus; it’s about remaining connected to Jesus.
THE BRANCH HAS ONE JOB
Think about a branch on a grapevine. It doesn’t wake up stressed about whether grapes are going to appear. It doesn’t compare itself to the branch next to it. It doesn’t say, “I need to work harder today.” It simply remains connected to the vine. The vine provides what the branch needs.Jesus is reminding us: Your job is connection. His job is production. As we remain close to Christ through His Word, prayer, worship, obedience, and daily dependence upon Him, the Holy Spirit begins producing fruit in our lives. Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Faithfulness. Strength. Endurance. Not because we’re powerful enough, but because we’re connected to the One who is.
APART FROM ME
Then Jesus makes an incredibly strong statement: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” Not less. Not as much. Nothing. We can be busy without Jesus. We can accomplish things without Jesus. We can even do religious things without Jesus. But we cannot produce the kind of spiritual fruit that lasts without remaining connected to Him. Sometimes exhaustion is a reminder that we’ve been trying to carry something in our own strength that was meant to flow from His. Maybe today you don’t need to try harder.Maybe you need to draw closer.
STAY CONNECTED
Whatever you’re facing today, don’t disconnect from your Source. When you’re tired — abide. When you’re discouraged — abide. When you don’t understand what God is doing — abide. When prayers haven’t been answered the way you expected — abide. When life feels fruitful — abide. When life feels barren — abide. Because the strength of the branch has never been found in the branch. It has always been found in the Vine. Stay close to Jesus. Stay in His Word.Stay in prayer. Stay surrendered. Stay connected. And trust Him to produce the fruit.
PRAYER
Jesus, You are the Vine and I am the branch. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to carry life in my own strength. Teach me to abide in You. When I’m tired, remind me where my strength comes from. When I’m anxious, draw me back into Your presence. Produce in my life the fruit that only You can produce. Today, I choose to stay connected to You. Amen.
Remember: You don’t have to manufacture the fruit. Just stay connected to the Vine.
