Reckless Love
There’s a lyric that has stirred hearts all over the world: “Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God…”And if we’re honest—there’s something in us that feels that. Because when you really look at your story…when you look at your mess, your failures, your running…the only way to describe how God came after you is this:It didn’t make sense.
The Love That Doesn’t Play It Safe
We are wired for calculated love. We love with conditions. We love with boundaries. We love with expectations. “I’ll love you if…”“I’ll stay as long as…”“I’ll give as much as you give…” But God doesn’t love like that.Romans 5:8 says:
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Not when we cleaned ourselves up. Not when we got our act together. Not when we finally became “worth it.” While we were still running. Still hiding. Still choosing everything but Him. He came anyway.
Chasing the One
Jesus tells a story in Luke 15 about a shepherd who leaves the 99 to go after the one. That’s not efficient. That’s not logical. That’s not safe. That’s love. The kind of love that climbs mountains, tears through shadows, and kicks down doors just to reach you. Not because you earned it. Not because you deserved it. But because you are His.
It Feels Reckless… But It’s Not
Let’s be clear—God isn’t reckless in the sense of being careless or out of control. His love is intentional. Perfect. Fully aware. But from our perspective? It feels reckless. Because we know who we are. We know what we’ve done. We know how far we’ve drifted. And yet… He keeps coming. Over and over again.
You Can’t Earn What’s Already Been Given
Here’s where this hits home: Some of us are still trying to earn a love that’s already been poured out. Still striving. Still performing. Still wondering if we’ve done enough. You haven’t. And you never will. That’s the point. Ephesians 2:8 says:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”
Love like this isn’t achieved. It’s received.
Stop Running
If there’s one thing this song reminds us of, it’s this:You can run—but you can’t outrun His love. You can hide—but He sees you. You can resist—but He won’t stop pursuing. And maybe today…the most spiritual thing you could do is stop running. Not clean yourself up. Not fix everything first. Not make promises you can’t keep. Just stop. And let yourself be found.
Final Thought
The love of God doesn’t make sense to the world. It breaks rules. It crosses lines. It goes further than we ever would. And thank God it does. Because if His love played it safe…none of us would be here.
