More Than We Can Ask or Imagine

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” — Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)
Have you ever prayed a bold prayer, only to shrink back with the thought: “Maybe that’s too much to ask”? Or maybe you’ve dreamed of something God might do in your life or church, and then dismissed it as unrealistic? Ephesians 3:20 challenges those doubts with a stunning truth: God is able to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine.
1.God’s Power is Beyond Our Limits
We often box God in by our limited perspective. We see through the lens of past disappointments, unanswered prayers, or the “realistic” expectations that experience teaches us. But Paul reminds us that God’s ability doesn’t stop at the edge of our imagination—it exceeds it. Where we see impossibility, God sees opportunity.
2.It’s Not Wishful Thinking—It’s Active Power
Notice the phrase: “according to His power that is at work within us.” This isn’t about distant hope. It’s about God’s power actively working in and through our lives right now. He’s not waiting for ideal circumstances. He’s already moving in unseen ways to fulfill His purpose.
3.Faith Makes Room for More
This verse doesn’t promise that God will give us everything we want, but it does promise that His plans are bigger, better, and more eternal than ours. When we pray, dream, and step out in faith, we partner with a God who delights in surpassing expectations.
So What Does This Mean for Us Today?
- Pray bigger. Don’t hesitate to bring bold prayers to God. He’s not intimidated by your requests—He welcomes them.
- Live with expectation. If you’re following Jesus, His power is in you. That means you’re not stuck, you’re not forgotten, and your best days are not behind you.
- Trust His heart. God’s “more” may look different than your “more.” But His plans are always for your good and His glory.
Let Ephesians 3:20 stretch your faith. Dare to believe that the God who spoke the stars into existence is also writing a beautiful, powerful story in and through your life.

Personal Testimony
For the past 6 months My family and I have been searching for a new home. It was looking very hopeless and my wife and I kept coming across Ephesians 3:20 and we hung on to this verse and it has come to pass in our current situation as I’m writing from our new living room in our new house that is more than we could ask or Imagine. There were many moments where I just wanted out of the waiting period that I was willing to settle for anything. I just wanted a roof over my family’s head but that is when my wife would remind me of Ephesians 3:20. Praise God that He is in the business of doing more than we could ask or Imagine!
