Learning How To Receive From The Lord

Learning How To Receive From The Lord

Learning How To Receive From The LordIt's absolutely crazy how you can be praying and seeking the Lord wholeheartedly for something and when He causes the breakthrough you don't know quite how to handle it. That is my current state today.

We have been praying for a new home and the Lord has answered and given us something way beyond what we could have imagined. Now that it's happening it feel surreal and I don't quite know how to just receive His blessing.

I've been thinking a lot about this and trying to cultivate the right approach to receiving. Here is what I have come up with...

1. Cultivate a posture of humility. Receiving begins with recognizing our need. James 4:6 says "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Come to God acknowledging you cannot earn His blessings - they are gifts of grace.

2. Ask in faith. Jesus said in Matthew 7:7, "Ask, and it will be given to you." Receiving from God involves boldly asking, while trusting His character to give what is good (James 1:17).

3. Rest in His love. Sometimes we struggle to receive because we feel unworthy. Remember that God loves you deeply and wants to bless you as His child. Romans 8:32 says, "He who did not spare his own Son… how will he not also… graciously give us all things?"

4. Listen and surrender. Receiving is not just about material or physical things - it is also about direction, wisdom, and peace. Take time in prayer and Scripture to listen, and be willing to surrender your own agenda so you can receive His.

5. Stay thankful. Gratitude unlocks a greater capacity to receive. When you thank God for what you already have, your heart stays open to trust Him for what He will do next.

A prayer you can pray right now.

Lord, help me to receive from You with a humble, trusting heart. Teach me to lay down my pride and open my hands. I believe You are a good Father who gives good gifts. I surrender my will to Yours and ask that You fill me with all that You desire for me. In Jesus' name, amen.
