Good to Those Who Wait

“The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” — Lamentations 3:25

Waiting is hard.Especially when you’ve been praying. When you’ve been faithful. When you’ve done everything you know to do—and still nothing seems to be changing. We often associate God’s goodness with receiving what we’ve been asking for. The prayer gets answered. The door opens. The provision comes. The relationship is restored. The situation finally turns around. But Lamentations 3:25 reminds us that God is good even in the waiting.

Waiting Doesn’t Mean God Isn’t Working

There are seasons when God seems quiet, but quiet does not mean absent. You may not be able to see what He is doing right now. You may not understand why it is taking so long. You may even wonder if God has forgotten about you. He hasn’t. Sometimes God changes our circumstances. Other times, while we wait for our circumstances to change, God changes us. He strengthens our faith. He exposes what we’ve been trusting in. He teaches us dependence. He draws us closer to Himself. The waiting room can become a classroom if we allow God to teach us there.

Seek Him, Not Just the Answer

Notice the second half of the verse:“…to the soul that seeketh him.” There is a difference between seeking God’s hand and seeking God’s heart. It’s possible to become so focused on what we need God to do that we miss what God wants to do in us. “Lord, fix this.” “Lord, provide this.” “Lord, change them.” “Lord, open this door.” Those aren’t wrong prayers. But eventually God may invite us into something deeper: “Lord, even if I don’t understand what You’re doing, I want You.” That’s where waiting becomes worship.

God Is Still Good

Lamentations wasn’t written during an easy season. Jeremiah was surrounded by devastation, grief, loss, and uncertainty. And right in the middle of it, he declares: The Lord is good. Not the Lord will be good once everything gets better. Not the Lord was good before everything fell apart. The Lord IS good. Right here. Right now. Even here. Maybe you’re waiting for provision. Waiting for healing. Waiting for reconciliation. Waiting for direction. Waiting for an opportunity. Waiting for an answer you’ve prayed about more times than you can count. Don’t confuse God’s delay with God’s denial. Keep seeking Him. Keep trusting Him. Keep showing up. Keep praying. And while you wait, remind your soul of what is true: God has not forgotten me.
 God has not abandoned me.
 God is still working.
 God is still faithful.
 And God is still good. You may not know what God is doing yet. But you know who God is. And sometimes, knowing who He is is enough to keep you going while you wait to see what He will do.

Prayer

Lord, waiting is hard, especially when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Help me not to measure Your goodness by my circumstances. Teach me to seek You more than I seek an answer. Strengthen my faith when I become tired, and remind me that silence doesn’t mean You are absent. I choose to trust Your heart even when I cannot see Your hand. You are faithful. You are present. And You are good. Amen.
