God is watching over His Word

God is watching over His Word

Then the LORD said to me, ‘You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.’” — Jeremiah 1:12 (ESV)

There are seasons when it feels like God is silent. You’ve prayed. You’ve waited. You’ve trusted. You’ve reminded yourself of what Scripture says. But when you look around, nothing seems to be changing. The circumstances are still difficult. The doors are still closed. The answers still haven't come. And somewhere in the middle of all that waiting, a question begins to form: God, are You still working? I love what God says to Jeremiah.“I am watching over my word to perform it.”

Notice what God doesn't say. He doesn't say, "I'm thinking about it." He doesn't say, "I'll see what I can do." He doesn't say, "Hopefully, things will work out." He says, I am watching over My Word. In other words, God is not careless with what He says. He doesn't speak and then forget. He doesn't make promises and then lose track of them. What He has declared, He is fully capable of accomplishing. And sometimes we need to be reminded of that. Just Because You Don't See It Doesn't Mean God Isn't Working

In Jeremiah 1, God calls Jeremiah to be a prophet during a difficult time in Israel's history. The nation is headed toward judgment, and Jeremiah is being called to deliver messages that won't be popular or easy. God asks Jeremiah what he sees, and Jeremiah responds that he sees a branch of an almond tree. There's something beautiful about that picture. The almond tree was one of the first trees to blossom after winter. Its early blooms signaled that a new season was approaching. In Hebrew, there's also a wordplay between the word for almond and the word for watching.

God uses this picture to assure Jeremiah that He is alert and attentive to His Word. God was making something clear to Jeremiah: What I have spoken will come to pass. In Jeremiah's context, that included difficult warnings of judgment, not just promises of blessing. But the truth about God's character remains the same. God is faithful to His Word. Even when the circumstances suggest otherwise. Even when the timeline doesn't make sense. Even when everything around us seems to be falling apart. God's Silence Is Not God's Absence

I think one of the hardest parts of following Jesus is learning to trust Him when we can't trace what He's doing. It's easy to talk about God's faithfulness when everything is going well. It's another thing entirely when the bills are piling up, relationships are strained, your health is uncertain, or you're carrying burdens that nobody else knows about. You pray, but nothing changes. You take a step of faith, but the road gets harder. You obey, but the outcome looks nothing like you expected. And if we're not careful, we begin measuring God's faithfulness by how quickly our circumstances improve. But God's faithfulness has never been dependent on our ability to see immediate results.

Think about that. The same God who spoke creation into existence is not struggling to accomplish His purposes in your life. He's not overwhelmed by what overwhelms you. He's not surprised by what surprised you. And He's not scrambling to figure out what happens next. He knows. He sees.He is watching. Trust the Word, Not Just the Outcome

Here's where this verse challenges me. Sometimes I find myself wanting God to prove His faithfulness by changing my circumstances. I want the answer. I want the breakthrough. I want the relief. I want to know how everything is going to work out. And preferably, I'd like to know today. But faith isn't simply trusting God to give me the outcome I want. Faith is trusting God to remain true to His Word, even when His plans look different from mine.

That's an important distinction. Jeremiah 1:12 isn't a blank check promising that everything we hope for will happen. It's a declaration that God will accomplish what He has spoken. And that means we need to know His Word.We need to hold on to what Scripture actually promises, rather than what we've assumed God should do. He promises His presence. He promises wisdom when we ask. He promises sufficient grace. He promises that nothing can separate us from His love in Christ. And He promises to finish the work He has begun in us. Those are truths worth standing on.

The Waiting Isn't Wasted Maybe you're in a season where you feel like nothing is moving. You've been faithful with what God has placed in front of you, but you're tired. Tired of waiting. Tired of wondering. Tired of hoping that tomorrow might finally look different. I want to encourage you with something. You don't have to manufacture a breakthrough to prove that God is working. You don't have to force open a door to prove that you have faith. And you don't have to understand every detail of what God is doing in order to trust Him. Sometimes faithfulness looks like continuing to pray when the answer hasn't come. Sometimes it looks like showing up when you're exhausted. Sometimes it looks like obeying God in the small things when you can't see the bigger picture. And sometimes it looks like simply saying, "Lord, I don't understand any of this, but I still believe You."

That's faith. Not because we know what tomorrow holds, but because we know the One who holds tomorrow. He Hasn't Forgotten I don't know what you're waiting on today. Maybe it's healing. Maybe it's provision. Maybe it's restoration in your family. Maybe it's direction for a decision you don't know how to make. Or maybe you're just asking God to give you enough strength to get through another day. Whatever it is, remember this: God has not forgotten His Word. He hasn't stopped being faithful because life has become difficult. He hasn't stopped being good because the answer hasn't come. And He hasn't stopped working simply because you can't see what He's doing.

The almond branch was a reminder to Jeremiah that God was watching and would accomplish His Word. Let it remind you of something today, too. The Lord is attentive. His timing is not careless. His purposes are not uncertain. And His Word will not fail. So keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep walking in obedience. Not because everything will turn out exactly the way you planned, but because the God who calls you to trust Him is faithful. You may still be waiting for things to change, but you are not waiting for God to become faithful. He already is. And He always will be.

SIT WITH THIS : Am I trusting God because I believe He is faithful to His Word, or am I only trusting Him as long as He gives me the outcome I'm hoping for?

PRAYER Lord, forgive me for the times I've allowed my circumstances to speak louder than Your Word. There are things I'm carrying that I don't understand, prayers that seem unanswered, and situations that feel beyond my control. Remind me that You are watching over Your Word and that nothing escapes Your attention. Teach me to trust Your character more than my circumstances and Your timing more than my own. Give me the strength to remain faithful while I wait, even when I cannot see what You're doing. Help me rest in the truth that You have not forgotten, You have not failed, and You never will. In Jesus' name, amen.
