God Is Ordering Your Steps
Psalm 37:23 (NLT) “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” I don't know about you, but there have been plenty of times in my life when I've questioned where God was leading me. Not because I stopped trusting Him, but because the road I was walking looked nothing like the one I expected. There have been unexpected turns, closed doors, painful setbacks, and seasons when I couldn't see much beyond the next step. And if I'm being honest, there have been moments when I've wondered whether I was even heading in the right direction.
That's why I love the reminder we find in Psalm 37:23. God doesn't just care about where we're going. He cares about every step we take along the way. Think about that for a moment. The God who created the heavens and the earth, who holds everything together, is personally interested in the details of your life. Not just the big decisions. Not just the major milestones. But the ordinary, everyday moments that we sometimes overlook. Even the ones that don't seem to make sense.One thing I've learned is that following God's direction doesn't mean the road will always be easy. Sometimes the steps He allows us to take lead through difficult places. Sometimes His direction involves waiting when we'd rather be moving. And sometimes what feels like a setback is actually part of something He's doing that we can't see yet. But here's what encourages me.
Just because I don't understand the direction doesn't mean God has lost sight of the destination. I think we spend so much time wanting God to show us the entire plan that we miss what He's asking us to do right now. We want to know how everything is going to work out. We want answers to the questions that keep us up at night. We want assurance that the road ahead won't get any harder. But God doesn't always give us the whole picture. Sometimes He simply gives us enough light to take the next step. And maybe that's where you find yourself today.
You're trying to figure out what's next. You're praying for direction. You're wondering why things haven't worked out the way you hoped. Can I encourage you with something? You don't have to figure out the entire journey today.You just need to keep walking with the One who knows the way. And don't miss the second part of this verse: “He delights in every detail of their lives.” God isn't reluctantly guiding you. He isn't annoyed by your questions or indifferent to your struggles. He delights in caring for His children. That doesn't mean every decision we make is automatically God's will, or that every difficult circumstance is something He specifically planned. But it does mean that as we seek Him, trust His Word, and surrender our ways to Him, we can be confident that our lives are never outside His care.
So today, instead of worrying about the ten steps you can't see, focus on being faithful with the one right in front of you. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep obeying.Because even when the road is uncertain, the One directing your steps is faithful.You may not know what tomorrow holds, but you can trust the God who is leading you today.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You for caring about every detail of my life. Forgive me for the times I've allowed uncertainty to steal my peace. Help me trust Your direction even when I don't understand the road ahead. Give me the faith to take the next step, the patience to wait when You're telling me to wait, and the confidence to know that You are always faithful. In Jesus' name, Amen.
