Don’t Lose Heart

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16

There are seasons when life simply wears you down. You can love God and still be tired. You can have faith and still feel overwhelmed. You can believe God is good and still wonder why the road has been so difficult. Paul understood that kind of life. He didn’t write, “We do not lose heart,” because everything was going well. He wrote it while experiencing hardship, pressure, suffering, and uncertainty. And yet he discovered something powerful: What was happening to him wasn’t greater than what God was doing in him. Paul says, “Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” Sometimes we’re so focused on what’s happening around us that we miss what God is doing within us. The circumstances may not have changed yet. The prayer may not have been answered yet. The burden may still be heavy. The situation may still feel uncertain. But that doesn’t mean God isn’t working.Every day you keep trusting Him, He’s strengthening something inside you. He’s developing endurance. Deepening your faith. Teaching you dependence. Reminding you that His grace really is enough. Then Paul gives us a different perspective: “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.” — 2 Corinthians 4:17

Paul isn’t saying our pain doesn’t hurt. He’s comparing our present suffering with the eternity that awaits us. And there is no comparison. What feels overwhelming today will not last forever. That’s why verse 18 tells us: “We look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.” Faith doesn’t deny what we see. Faith refuses to believe that what we see is all there is. You may see a closed door. God sees the whole journey. You may see a setback. God sees what He’s producing through it. You may see weakness. God sees an opportunity for His strength. You may see a season that feels like it’s breaking you. God may be using it to build something in you that will last forever. So don’t lose heart. You don’t have to understand everything God is doing to trust that He’s doing something. What’s happening around you may be temporary, but what God is doing within you can have eternal significance.

Keep going. Keep trusting. Keep looking beyond what you can see. God is renewing you day by day.
