Finding Strength in God Through Our Fragility
THE TREASURE INSIDE
God often places His greatest treasures in the most fragile places.
SCRIPTURE
“We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” — 2 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)
I think most of us spend a good portion of our lives trying to hold everything together. We want to be strong. We want to be dependable. We want to be the person others can count on. And when life gets difficult, we do our best to keep going, even when we’re exhausted, discouraged, or barely hanging on. But what happens when we can’t hold everything together anymore? What happens when the cracks begin to show? Paul reminds us of something important in 2 Corinthians 4:7. We’re not made of steel. We’re not indestructible. We’re fragile clay jars. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. In Paul’s day, clay jars were ordinary containers. They weren’t particularly impressive or valuable. They were inexpensive, easily broken, and commonly used. But what made a jar valuable wasn’t the container itself. It was what the container held. And that’s the beautiful picture Paul gives us. The treasure is Christ.
The jar is us. I’ve learned that life has a way of reminding us just how fragile we really are. Sometimes it happens through unexpected circumstances. Sometimes through loss, disappointment, or seasons we never imagined we’d have to walk through. And sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we simply don’t have the strength to keep pretending everything is okay. But here’s what encourages me. God never asked us to be unbreakable. He never expected us to have unlimited strength, all the answers, or the ability to handle everything life throws our way.In fact, Paul tells us that our weakness serves a purpose. It makes it clear that the power sustaining us isn’t coming from us. It’s coming from God. Maybe that’s why God is willing to use cracked vessels.Because when something beautiful comes out of something broken, people begin to recognize that God must be at work. And maybe that’s where you find yourself today.
Tired. Worn down. Feeling the weight of circumstances you can’t change. Wondering how much more you can carry. I want to remind you that your limitations don’t disqualify you from being used by God. You may be fragile, but what God has placed inside you is not. The same God who saved you is the One sustaining you. And even when you feel like you’re falling apart, His power hasn’t diminished. So don’t spend all your energy trying to convince everyone that you’re strong. It’s okay to acknowledge the cracks. Because the greatest thing about your life was never how strong you could be on your own. It’s the treasure you carry.
TODAY’S REFLECTION
Where have you been relying on your own strength instead of allowing God’s power to sustain you?
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for reminding me that I don’t have to be strong all the time. You know my weaknesses, my limitations, and the places where I feel like I’m falling apart. Help me stop relying on my own strength and learn to depend on Yours. May my life point people beyond my circumstances and toward the treasure of knowing You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
