Finding strength for today instead of worrying about tomorrow
Don’t Let Tomorrow Steal Today’s Strength
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” — Matthew 6:34 (NLT)
There’s an important truth we need to remember: Worry doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrows; it empties today of its strength.
We worry because we want to be prepared. We replay conversations that haven’t happened. We imagine outcomes that haven’t come. We try to solve problems that aren’t even here yet .What if this happens? What if things don’t work out? What if I don’t have enough? What if the answer isn’t what I’m praying for?
Before we know it, we’re carrying the weight of tomorrow while still trying to walk through today. Jesus never promised that tomorrow wouldn’t have trouble. In fact, He said the opposite: “Tomorrow will bring its own worries.” But here’s what we often forget: Tomorrow’s trouble will come with tomorrow’s grace. God gives us strength for today. When Israel wandered through the wilderness, God provided manna one day at a time. They couldn’t stockpile it because God was teaching them something deeper than how to find food. He was teaching them how to trust Him daily.
Maybe that’s what God is teaching you right now. You don’t need strength today for everything that might happen next week. You don’t need the answer to every question. You don’t need to figure out the entire journey. You just need enough grace for the step you’re on. And God has promised to provide it. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT) Notice Scripture doesn’t say to pretend the worries aren’t there. It says to give them to God. There’s a difference. Faith isn’t denying that tomorrow feels uncertain. Faith is saying, “Tomorrow may be uncertain to me, but it isn’t uncertain to God.” The God who is holding you today is already standing in your tomorrow. So don’t spend today’s strength fighting tomorrow’s imaginary battles. Take care of what God has placed in front of you today.
Pray today. Love your family today. Do the work in front of you today. Take the next step today. Trust God today. Tomorrow will arrive soon enough—and when it does, God will already be there. Worry asks, “What if?” Faith says, “Even if.” Even if things don’t happen the way I expected, God will be faithful. Even if the road becomes difficult, God will walk with me. Even if I don’t understand what He is doing, I can still trust who He is. Don’t let tomorrow steal the strength God gave you for today. You don’t have to carry tomorrow yet. God will give you tomorrow’s grace when tomorrow comes.
Prayer
Father, I give You the things I’m worried about today. Forgive me for carrying tomorrow before it gets here. Help me trust that You are already ahead of me, working in places I cannot see. Give me the strength I need for today, the grace I need for this moment, and the faith to take the next step. I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know You’ll be there. In Jesus’ name, amen.
