Finding Refuge in God's Goodness During Hard Times

Finding Refuge in God's Goodness During Hard Times

God Is Good, Even When Life Isn’t

Finding Refuge in the Faithfulness of God Nahum 1:7 (NLT) “The LORD is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.”

I remember a season when I found myself praying the same prayers over and over, hoping things would change. I believed God was good, but if I’m being transparent, there were moments when I struggled to understand what He was doing. I knew all the right things to say about faith and trust, but living them out when life wasn’t going as planned was another story. And somewhere in that season, I was reminded of a simple but powerful truth: God doesn’t stop being good just because life gets hard.

It’s easy to praise God when prayers are answered, doors are opening, and everything seems to fall into place. But what about when the answers don’t come, the doors remain closed, and the future feels uncertain? Nahum 1:7 reminds us that God is good, He is our refuge, and He knows those who trust Him.

Notice that Scripture doesn’t promise trouble won’t come. Instead, it promises that when trouble comes, we have somewhere to run. Sometimes we want God to remove the storm, but He’s inviting us to find refuge in His presence. A refuge doesn’t mean the battle isn’t happening. It means the battle doesn’t have to destroy us. Our circumstances may change overnight. Our plans may fall apart. We may face disappointments we never expected. But God’s character remains the same. Maybe today you’re carrying something heavier than you can handle. Maybe you’re tired of trying to hold everything together. Here’s what I want to remind you: You don’t have to be strong enough for everything you’re facing. You have a God who is strong enough to be your refuge.

You may not understand what God is doing, but you can trust who He is. God never promised that every season would be good, but He is a good God in every season. So when trouble comes, run to Him. He is good. He is strong. And He knows those who trust in Him.

Reflection: Am I allowing my circumstances to define God’s goodness, or am I allowing God’s goodness to shape how I face my circumstances?
