Finding Peace in God's Presence
When His Presence Is Enough
You don’t have to have everything figured out to find peace.
Psalm 73:25–26 (NLT) “Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.”
There are seasons in life when you realize just how much you’ve been depending on things going a certain way. You had a plan. You had expectations. You had an idea of what life was supposed to look like. And when things didn’t unfold the way you hoped, it left you feeling unsettled. I’ve been there. I’ve had moments when I thought, If this one thing would just change, I could finally relax. If this prayer were answered, maybe I could stop worrying. If life would settle down, I could finally enjoy where I am. But I’ve learned that there’s always something else waiting around the corner. Another responsibility. Another concern. Another situation beyond my control.
And if I’m constantly waiting for life to become easier before I can be content, I may spend a lot of time missing what God is doing right in front of me. That’s what makes Psalm 73 so powerful. Asaph, the writer of this psalm, had wrestled with disappointment, confusion, and the unfairness of life. He struggled to understand why people who ignored God seemed to prosper while those who followed Him experienced hardship. But something changed when he entered God’s presence.
His circumstances hadn’t necessarily improved. The questions hadn’t all been answered. But his perspective began to shift. He came to a beautiful realization: Even if everything else failed him, God would not. I love the honesty of verse 26.“My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak…” There’s no pretending here. No attempt to make life sound easier than it really is. Asaph acknowledges that there are limits to his own strength. And then comes the promise.“But God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.”
What a reminder. We spend so much energy trying to hold everything together. We want to be strong for our families, dependable for the people who count on us, and faithful through whatever comes our way. But sometimes we’re simply tired. And God never asked us to be strong enough to carry everything on our own. He invites us to depend on Him. Maybe today you’re facing something you never expected. Maybe you’re exhausted from waiting, discouraged by circumstances that haven’t changed, or struggling to understand what God is doing. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay. You don’t have to have all the answers. And you certainly don’t have to figure everything out before coming to Him.
The greatest comfort isn’t knowing exactly what tomorrow holds. It’s knowing who will be there when tomorrow comes. That’s the beauty of walking with God. Our circumstances may change, our strength may fade, and our plans may fall apart, but His presence remains constant. And sometimes, when everything else feels uncertain, that truth becomes more precious than anything we were hoping would change.
Something to Think About
What have you been depending on to bring you peace or contentment? Is there something you’ve been waiting for God to change when He may be inviting you to trust Him more deeply right where you are?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being the strength of my heart when my own strength isn’t enough. Help me stop placing my hope in circumstances working out exactly as I planned. Teach me to depend on You, especially in seasons of uncertainty. When I feel weary or discouraged, remind me that Your presence is constant and Your faithfulness never changes. May knowing You become more important to me than having every answer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
