Those Who Trust the Lord Will Be Joyful

“Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the LORD will be joyful.” — Proverbs 16:20 (NLT)

We often think joy will come when our circumstances finally change. When the prayer gets answered. When the door finally opens. When the finances improve. When the relationship is restored. When the uncertainty disappears. When life finally feels a little easier. But Proverbs 16:20 gives us a different source of joy:“Those who trust the LORD will be joyful.” It doesn’t say those who understand everything will be joyful. It doesn’t say those whose lives go according to plan will be joyful. It doesn’t even say those who get everything they prayed for will be joyful. It says those who trust the Lord will be joyful.

Joy Is Connected to Trust

There is a peace that comes when you finally stop trying to figure everything out and place it into God’s hands.Trust says: “Lord, I don’t know how this is going to work out, but I k now You.” I know You are faithful. I know You are good. I know You haven’t abandoned me. I know You see what I cannot see. I know You are working even when I cannot see evidence of it yet. That kind of trust changes the way we walk through difficult seasons. The circumstances may not immediately change, but something changes inside of us. Fear begins to loosen its grip. Anxiety no longer gets the final word. Our need to control everything begins to fade. And joy starts returning.

You Can Have Questions and Still Have Joy

Trusting God doesn’t mean you never have questions. You can wonder what God is doing and still trust Him. You can be disappointed and still trust Him. You can be waiting and still trust Him. You can be walking through something you never expected and still trust Him. Joy isn’t pretending everything is okay. Joy is knowing that even when everything isn’t okay, God is still faithful. Your joy doesn’t have to rise and fall with your circumstances. It can be anchored in the character of God.

Trust Him Today

Maybe there is something you’ve been carrying that you cannot fix. You have prayed about it. Thought about it. Worried about it. Played every possible scenario through your mind. And today God may simply be inviting you to trust Him with it. You don’t need to know what happens next to trust the One who already knows. You don’t need to see the entire road to trust the One leading your steps. You don’t need every question answered to believe God is still good. The more our hearts learn to trust God, the less our joy depends on our circumstances. So today, release what you cannot control. Give God what you’ve been carrying. Trust His heart when you cannot understand His hand. Because the promise remains:“Those who trust the LORD will be joyful.”

Prayer

Lord, I choose to trust You today. There are things in my life I don’t understand and situations I cannot control, but I know You are faithful. Help me stop looking to my circumstances for my joy and begin finding my joy in You. When fear rises, remind me of Your faithfulness. When I don’t know what comes next, help me trust that You do. My life is in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
