Finding Faith in Overwhelming Times
When It Feels Like I’m Drowning
Sometimes faith looks like barely keeping your head above water.
SCRIPTURE “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.” — Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)
Have you ever felt like you were drowning? Not literally, but in life. Like everything is coming at you all at once, and no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to catch your breath. Lately, I’ve had moments like that. There are responsibilities that don’t stop, problems that don’t seem to have solutions, prayers that haven’t been answered, and things weighing on my heart that I don’t always know how to put into words. And sometimes, just when I think I’m finally getting my head above water, another wave comes.
I wish I could tell you that my faith always feels strong in those moments. That I immediately turn to God with complete confidence and peace. But sometimes I’m just tired.Tired of trying to figure everything out. Tired of wondering what’s coming next. Tired of feeling like I’m giving everything I have and somehow still falling short. Maybe you know that feeling too. What encourages me about Isaiah 43:2 is that God never promises we won’t go through deep waters. He doesn’t say we won’t face overwhelming circumstances or seasons that leave us exhausted. He promises that the waters won’t have the final say. And even more importantly, He promises to be with us in the middle of them. I’ve been reminded that God’s presence doesn’t always mean the storm immediately stops. Sometimes it means He’s holding us up when we don’t have the strength to keep swimming.
Maybe that’s where you are today. You’re doing your best to keep going, but deep down, you’re exhausted. You’re praying, you’re trusting, but you’re also wondering how much longer you can keep doing this. I don’t have a simple answer for that. But I do know this: Just because you feel overwhelmed doesn’t mean you’ve been abandoned. The same God who carried you through yesterday is still with you today. And maybe today, faith isn’t about swimming harder or pretending you’re okay. Maybe it’s simply reaching out your hand and trusting that He’s still holding on. Because even when it feels like you’re drowning, you’re not beyond His reach.
A THOUGHT TO CARRY TODAY
You don’t have to be strong enough to hold everything together. You just have to trust the One who is holding you.
PRAYER
Lord, I’m tired. Some days everything feels like more than I can handle. Help me stop trying to carry what was never mine to carry alone. Remind me that even in the deepest waters, You are with me. Give me strength for today, peace for what I cannot control, and faith to trust You with whatever comes next. Amen.
