Finding Comfort in God Amidst Worry
When Worry Won’t Leave You Alone
Psalm 94:19 (NLT) “When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” —
Have you ever been physically exhausted but unable to shut your mind off? You lie down, hoping to get some rest, but your thoughts have other plans. You start thinking about the bills that need to be paid, the decisions that need to be made, the people you’re concerned about, and the situations you have absolutely no control over. One thought leads to another, and before you know it, you’re worrying about things that haven’t even happened yet. I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit. And one thing I’ve learned is that worry doesn’t always come from a lack of faith.
Sometimes it comes from carrying more than we were ever meant to carry. That’s why I love the honesty of Psalm 94:19. The psalmist doesn’t pretend that everything is fine. He admits that his mind is filled with doubts. But he also recognizes that God’s comfort is greater than the thoughts overwhelming him. Notice what the verse doesn’t say. It doesn’t say that God immediately removed every problem, answered every question, or changed every circumstance. It says His comfort brought renewed hope. I think that’s an important distinction. Because sometimes we’re so focused on asking God to change what’s happening around us that we overlook what He’s doing within us. We want the situation resolved. God offers us His presence while we walk through it.We want answers. God reminds us that we can trust Him even when we don’t have them. We want peace because everything is finally under control. God offers us peace because He is still in control. And maybe that’s what you need to hear today.
You don’t have to figure everything out tonight. You don’t have to solve tomorrow’s problems before you go to bed. And you certainly don’t have to carry the weight of things that belong in God’s hands. Whatever is occupying your thoughts today, bring it to Him. Not because your concerns aren’t real, but because His comfort is real, too. The presence of worry doesn’t mean the absence of faith. Sometimes faith is choosing to trust God while the worries are still there. So when your mind starts racing and your heart feels overwhelmed, remember that you don’t have to face those thoughts alone. God may not change your circumstances overnight, but He can renew your hope right in the middle of them. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need to keep going.
