A Lamp for the Next Step

A Lamp for the Next Step

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (ESV)

Have you ever tried to walk in total darkness? You shuffle your feet, stretch out your hands, and take each step cautiously, hoping not to trip. Life often feels that way—uncertain, unpredictable, and shadowed with doubt. We want to see the full map, the five-year plan, the guarantees. But God often gives us something much better: His Word—just enough light for the next step.In biblical times, a lamp wasn’t a spotlight—it was a small oil lamp that illuminated only a few feet ahead. It didn’t reveal the whole road, but it showed you where to place your foot next.

That’s the beauty of walking with God. He doesn’t promise full visibility; He promises faithful guidance. The Word of God is not only our instruction manual—it’s our compass, comfort, and clarity. It gives wisdom when we’re confused, courage when we’re afraid, and direction when we’re lost. Maybe you’re in a season where the future feels blurry or even frightening. Don’t freeze in fear. Trust the lamp. Open your Bible, hear His voice, and take one faithful step. You don’t need to see the whole path—you just need to walk in the light you’ve been given.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your Word. When life feels dark and uncertain, help me trust the light You provide. I don’t need to see the whole path—just enough to walk with You in faith. Teach me to listen, follow, and believe that You are guiding me every step of the way. Amen.

Reflect:

  • What area of your life feels unclear or uncertain?
  • How can you let God’s Word guide just your next step today?
